Tourist Buses

As a general rule, if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. Think twice about what you are doing the next time you go to book that 450 baht 'joint ticket' to wherever you are headed in Southern Thailand. Some of these operators need to subsidize their low-cost operation in any way they can. Yes, you got it. That means going through your bags in the middle of the night while you are sleeping away in anticipation of the next stop.

Most of these buses originate in the Khao San Area. A noteable exception to the rule is the Lomprayah company. Their buses are regarded as safe which is why you pay a more realistic price to travel with them. It is a short ride to the Southern Bus Terminal, so you should probably head over there in much the same way Thai people do. It will save you a potentially terrible experience.

It is always wise to keep your valuables with you. This means money should be on your person, and things like cameras should be kept in your small bag on the bus.

**Note: There are also reports of theft in these kinds of outfits in the south. Most notably, these types of buses operate from Krabi and Phuket. The Phi Phi family should be avoided. Instead, head to the government affiliated bus station wherever you are.
